Gift Card FAQs
Purchasing a Gift Card
Yes. However, cards can be given to and used by anyone.
You can purchase a card in a local branch for $2 or online through Member Access for $3.50 per card.1 We offer a variety of card designs for holiday seasons and special events.
Gift cards ordered online through Member Access can only be mailed to your address on file with the Credit Union.
Gift cards can be purchased in any amount between $20 and $500.
Managing Your Card
Before using your gift card, review the Visa Gift Card Cardholder Agreement on our Account Disclosures page and sign the back of the card.

If you have never registered an SECU Visa Gift Card through Gift Card Manager, you’ll need to create an account, providing your name, address and phone number, and verify your email address. Click the “Activate & register” link and follow the prompts to complete the process. You’ll select a 4-digit PIN when setting up your card.
If you’re an existing Gift Card Manager user, log in to your account to activate your new card and select your PIN.
You can also activate your card and select a PIN by calling (866) 902-6082. However, if you don’t register your card online, you can’t make online, phone, or mail order purchases, obtain a replacement gift card, or dispute fraudulent transactions.

You can reset your password through Gift Card Manager using your account login email.
Yes. Your card expires on the last day of the month displayed on the card. However, the underlying funds on your card do not expire.
If you have an SECU Visa Gift Card previously registered through the My Account website, you must create a new login through Gift Card Manager to review and manage your card online. You will no longer be able to access SECU Visa Gift Cards through My Account. Visit Gift Card Manager and click the “Activate & register” link to complete the process.
Using Your Gift Card
You can use your card at any participating US or international merchant that accepts Visa cards and magnetic stripe transactions. To make online, phone or mail order purchases, register your card online through Gift Card Manager.
You can’t use your card for any of the following types of transactions
- Cash transactions, including ATM withdrawals, cash advances, or cash back
- Online gambling or illegal activity
- Recurring transactions such as utility service providers or health club fees
- Car rentals
- Cruise line purchases
- Pay-at-the-pump gas purchases
Note: You can use your card to purchase gas inside the store with the attendant.
Yes. At check-in, hotels may ask to put a hold on your card for the amount of your stay or other expenses, making those funds unavailable for use. If the amount of the hold is greater than your card balance, the transaction could be declined. To avoid this, check in with another debit or credit card, and then use your SECU Visa Gift Card as final payment for your stay.
You can use your card as either debit or credit. Debit transactions require you to enter your PIN, while credit transactions require your signature to authorize the purchase.
Yes. If your bill plus the tip amount exceeds your card balance, the transaction may be declined. If needed, ask the merchant to process a specific amount from the gift card and use another payment method to complete your purchase transaction.
Yes. Merchants can either return the funds back to your card balance or provide you with a cash refund or store credit.
Your card may be declined for any of the following reasons
- Trying to make a prohibited transaction

Ask the merchant to process a specific amount from the gift card and use another payment method to complete your purchase transaction. - No funds on your card
When you have used all the funds on your card, and you do not plan to make any returns on prior purchases, destroy the card and throw it away. - Your card is locked

Log in to Gift Card Manager to check your card’s balance and transaction history.
If you forget your password, you can also check your balance online, or by calling (866) 902-6082, and entering the gift card number and CVV code.

Security and Fraud
Log in to Gift Card Manager or call (866) 902-6082 to lock or unlock your card. While your card is locked, it will be declined for purchases.
Call (866) 902-6082 as soon as possible to dispute a transaction.
Call (866) 902-6082 immediately to report your card lost or stolen.
