SECU Shred Days

Shredding is a safe and secure way to help prevent valuable information from getting in the wrong hands. SECU periodically schedules shredding events at various branch locations to run for three hours. However, events may end sooner if the shred truck reaches capacity earlier.

SECU shred events are intended for securely destroying paper documents. There is no need to remove staples, paperclips, or folders from your documents. Non-paper items such as batteries and electronics are not permitted as they may damage the shred truck, including causing a fire. Shred days are for personal documents only – no business or commercial shredding is allowed.

What to Bring:

  • Old Financial Documents

Anything with financial information you want destroyed.

  • Shipping Labels

Shipping labels can have personal information including names and addresses.

  • Photos

Photos can be stolen and used for fake identification.

  • Duplicates and Paper Clutter

Unnecessary duplicates, old documents, and paper clutter you no longer want.

What not to Bring:

  • Batteries

Seek guidance from your battery’s producer to learn about secure disposal.

  • Hard Drives

These require a special destruction process that will not be offered at Community Shred-it Events.

  • Medical Waste

Attend a local Drug Take Back Day event to dispose of pharmaceutical waste or contact your local government to learn more about other medical waste disposal options.
