Experiencing a Job Loss? SECU is Here To Help

Man thinking with paperwork

If you have recently lost your job or are experiencing a financial hardship, you don’t have to navigate it alone. SECU is ready to assist with valuable guidance and resources.

Spending plan

Use a Spending Plan to identify monthly expenses and determine what your critical needs are going to be during this period of transition. Then create a plan that allocates funds to those needs and eliminates the rest.

The Spending Plan guide includes information on how to get started and may be able to help you save in each of these areas. Contact your local branch or call (833) 599-7328 for assistance.

Credit

If your period of unemployment is going to be short, you may consider the use of a credit card or loan to pay for expenses. The decision to use credit is easier when you know what's on your credit report. Take this opportunity to view your credit report and correct any errors before applying for new credit. Review our Guide to Credit Reports for information on obtaining a free credit report from each of the three major credit bureaus. If you are interested in applying for a loan, call (844) 296-4831 to discuss your options.

Mortgage assistance

If you are having difficulty making your SECU mortgage payment, we may be able to assist. Visit the Mortgage Assistance Program (MAP) page for more details, or call (877) 835-2567 to discuss repayment options with an SECU MAP specialist.

Payment assistance on consumer loans and credit cards

If you are having difficulty making your SECU consumer loan or credit card payment, we may be able to assist. Contact your local branch for more details and to discuss repayment options.

Financial planning

Dealing with your retirement savings shouldn't add to your stress. We can help you simplify the options for your former employer plan and help you make a choice that aligns with your overall financial goals. Contact your local branch or call (833) 599-7328 to speak with a Credit Union Investment Services (CUIS) representative.1

Community resources

Managing your existing finances is essential but may not be enough. Stay informed of the abundant community and statewide programs designed to help you transition back to employment. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) and its partners, like NC 211, can provide help with job searches, skills, training, and critical resources to bridge financial gaps. Visit nc211.org for more information about resources in your community.
