The SECU Board of Directors Nominating Committee has put forth their nominations for candidates who are seeking election to the board. These nominations are the result of a careful and thorough evaluation process for each candidate, aimed at identifying individuals who possess the demonstrated commitment, skills, experience, and vision to lead SECU forward.

This document allows each nominated and valid self-nominated candidate to share their relevant background, which includes their occupation, education, board and volunteer experience, and membership tenure, to the membership for consideration.

All members are encouraged to review the election materials above before casting their ballots. The Notice of the Annual Meeting, Board Nominating Committee Letter, and Candidates’ Statement of Background have also been posted in all SECU branches.

What is the SECU Board of Directors?

The SECU Board of Directors is an 11-member group that is responsible for establishing policy and determining the general direction of the Credit Union. Board members are volunteers that meet monthly and serve three-year terms.

How often do members vote for the Board of Directors?

Terms for Board of Director seats are staggered so that each year, at least three or four seats are open for election by SECU members. In 2023, there are three seats up for election.

Who can vote in the election?

Only persons who are members aged 16 years or older as of the date of the Notice of the Annual Meeting may cast an absentee ballot. Only persons who are members aged 16 years or older as of the date of the Annual Meeting may cast an in-person ballot at the Annual Meeting.

Why vote?

SECU was founded on the democratic principle of member-ownership. Every eligible SECU member has a right to cast a ballot to elect the SECU Board of Directors and have a say in the future of SECU.

How can I vote?

You have two options to cast your vote:

1. Absentee Voting: Available electronically September 1 through October 3 through a secure member portal (https://secuvote.ey.com/) or upon request, via a paper ballot. Specific instructions for requesting and casting a ballot will be provided in the Notice of the Annual Meeting, published August 25. Be sure to read the instructions carefully to ensure paper ballots are returned on time. Please note, you will need your SECU share or other deposit account number and last 5 digits of your Social Security number to vote.

2. In-Person Voting: Available during the Annual Meeting on October 10.

The SECU Annual Meeting will be held on October 10 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sheraton Greensboro Hotel at Four Seasons. SECU encourages those interested in attending this year’s Annual Meeting to pre-register to ensure there is adequate space. Pre-registration concludes October 3. Onsite registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. on October 10. Seating capacity is limited.

Eligible members are allowed to only vote once in this election, either by absentee ballot OR in person at the Annual Meeting.

When will the results of the election be announced?

The final results will be announced at the Annual Meeting after any on-site votes are cast and tabulated.

Notice given to membership about any changes in election procedures for self-nomination candidates.
June 12
Chair appoints the Nominating Committee.
June 20
Notice of Election Procedures and Candidate Package made available online.
July 20
Deadline for interested candidates to submit the completed Candidate Package to the Corporate Secretary of SECU.
August 11
Nominating Committee files nominations with the Corporate Secretary of SECU.
August 21
Deadline for self-nominations via Official Nominating Petitions.
August 25
Posting of Notice of the Annual Meeting, candidates, and Annual Meeting rules of conduct in SECU branches and online.
September 1
Absentee voting period begins.
October 3
Absentee voting period ends.
